Fredrick Delius (1863-1934) - Manuscript

ACQUISITION: Accumulated from various files in the Society library. Biographical Note: Fredrick Delius was a British musical composer born in 1863. He arrived in Florida in order to become an orange planter and devoted his spare time to musical study. In 1886, he left Florida, never to come back. He moved to Leipzig where he underwent formal musical training. His music as a whole is too delicate and restrained in character to have secured him a wide general favor although he is considered a master of his time. These are photos of Frederick Delius house on Solano Drive. On the back of photos 1 through 4 is written: "Cottage at Solano Drive, St. Johns County, Florida. The home of Frederick Delius, March 1884 - August 1885. From a photograph made May 10, 1939, by J. Carver Harris, 18 Hypolita Street, St. Augustine, Florida, for Mrs. Henry L Richmond." Additionally, photo 1 says, "front of house", photo 2, "south side", photo 3, "north side" and photo 4, "View of St. Johns River from veranda". Photo 5 is not part of the above group. Written on the back is, "Delius house at Solano Grove 1939 (40?)".
