Scope & Content ACQUISITION: Miss Lucetta Pitney Johnson, of 38 Water Street in St. Augustine and 16 Colles Avenue, Morristown, New Jersey, gave the original letter to the SAHS.

SCOPE & CONTENT NOTE: The writer, William Wallace Marsh, was a Princeton Graduate Class of 1847. The recipient, Henry Cooper Pitney, graduated from Princeton in 1848, and was Vice Chancllor of the Court of Equity, New Jersey, from 18889- to 1907. He was the grandfather of Miss Lucetta Pitney Johnson, of 38 Water Street in St. Augustine and 16 Colles Avenue, Morristown, New Jersey, who gave the original letter to the Society. The Pitney Farm in Mendam, Morris County, New Jersey had been in possession of the Pitney Family since the time of William Penn. ~DOW 1956
